CAP is a program which weaves art & music into a unique and unprecedented therapeutic intervention that helps patients explore their emotions and feelings through the use of music and expressive drawings or paintings
CAP is a groundbreaking artistic mediation which addresses deep emotional core issues unobtrusively and can overcome clients resistance to change
What happens when you take uniquely composed music, used in a specific sequence, ask patients to draw freely while listening to music, and add in-depth interpretation of the artwork that far exceeds what the individual has articulated or that the therapist sees?
You have an innovative and exciting therapeutic tool - the Catharsis Application Program (CAP).
Catharsis Application Program (CAP) is an original therapeutic process combining graphic expression under musical induction while utilizing psycho-technical testing as an assessment tool for the professional.
This method provides a very structured therapeutic process and assessment specifically designed for the mental health professional.
The core of the method is the music itself, which triggers behavioral changes and creates a momentum that helps individuals to be in tune again with the flow of life. CAP music is a restorative and empowering process in relieving emotional tensions across all ages.
Associated with graphic expression, this music allows the manifestation and the release of the emotional components of a large range of issues. The pictures reveal, in a symbolic language the keynotes of a problem and offer a venue for resolution.
This therapy can be implemented without incorporating graphic expression, allowing the method to be used easily in a variety of environments.
All tests are standard personality tests and can be used alone to help assess the emotional functioning of the individual.
The fusion of information gained through the interpretation of music, graphic expression and projective tests together is an invaluable resource to achieve an enhanced and personalized support for each individual.
We hope you enjoy the extensive documentation provided in this website that validates the success of this program in assisting with the emotional and behavioral imbalances by those who are facing difficult situations and dramatic life changes.
You'll discover that drawing while listening to our innovative musical selections helps each one to connect to their core creativity, allowing them to understand their personal story and strongly grasp their true potential. Through this process, they find an invigorated drive to continue their journey.
This powerful restorative tool helps patients explore safely their emotions and feelings, utilizing music to trigger a cathartic phenomenon, which allows the expression of fears, conflicts, and repressed emotions and feelings for a real liberation and healing process.
The therapeutic approach is non-confrontational and non-threatening.
It addresses the source of an individual’s core issues without the need for conscious exploration of the past. Clients who want to restore a state of emotional balance but are reluctant to psychotherapy or conventional analysis or any form of talk therapy really enjoy this process.
See how CAP is beneficial for clients:
The guiding theoretical orientation of CAP incorporates Jungian's psychology and symbolism as well as the work on the imaginary and the symbolic imagination led initially by Mircea Eliade and Gaston Bachelard, which was then further developed by Gilbert Durand, who founded the Center of Research in Imagination in France in 1966 in collaboration with Paul Deschamps and Leon Cellier.
The therapeutic results achieved through this method incorporate both the creative and the analytical components of this artistic process. It is based on the idea that art is a means of symbolic communication in which drawings serve as a conduit uncovering emotional patterns and/or inner conflicts and generate a possible resolution.
CAP can be used effectively in tandem with any other therapy to reinforce the effectiveness of these treatment.
The musical selections are based on specific archetypes which resonate with the inner music of each person. The cathartic function of this music brings past traumatic experiences to the surface and serves as a means of releasing the emotional baggage tied to them.
The use of CAP music seems to activate an effect on the emotional and mental realms through a somatopsychic integration, which is reflected by neurophysiological modifications.
This dynamic process has an action on the subconscious as well.
For the most part, CAP music was composed and recorded through improvisation. It was not composed with the intention of creating a certain effect on listeners, and can thus be considered “non-conditioning.” As studies have shown, the spontaneous nature of music is of undeniable importance in therapy with musical induction. The music allows listeners to break through mental barriers without setting off a self protection mechanism.
See what Mrs. Touron has to say about CAP helping patients to go beyond self protection mechanism:
Patricia Touron - Psychiatric Nurse
The program is based on a single work of music.
Its musical continuity allows for an extension of thought and emotional expression, which is conducive to a deep psychotherapeutic work.
The music can thus be considered as having a “convergent” effect. "-Convergent in this sense meaning "the effect of withdrawing from the body; relaxing, feeling secure and slowing biological rhythms…” — Introduction to acousticotherapy. Dr D. Feldman, P. Gardey, J. Reynaud, 1985.
Graphic expression is as effective with children, adolescents and adults.
It is an efficient and very powerful media for:
Subjective test such as projective tests, questionnaires and evaluation scales, self-assessment questionnaire designed for children, adolescents or adults are administered during the pre and post evaluation (Session 1 & Session 12).
We offer a wide range of tests among which the therapist can choose the most suitable for the patient:

Benefits of Evaluation Tests
The benefit of using several tests is that each one brings to light a different aspect of the patient’s progress. The data collected can be used to determine what has remained unchanged and what has evolved radically. Further, one test can be used to corroborate the findings of another.
Clients appreciate to observe clearly the changes that have occurred over the past 12 weeks program.
Projective Tests & Evaluation Tools
A detailed analysis of the drawings helps to explore the magical and meaningful world of symbols and archetypes.
And CAP goes a step further in three ways:
Using CAP as an artistic mediation gives the patient the opportunity to become an active participant in their own progression. Music and drawings will serve as an intermediate language between patient and practitioner creating a relationship of authentic communication. This communication is achieved through creativity by encouraging the patient to express their emotions in a non verbal manner.
The opportunity to monitor a patient’s progress sequentially over the course of the program is very reassuring for the practitioner, especially when encountering a patient with challenges to therapy.
When therapeutic gains seem to stall, CAP is a good methodology to use. Change in the therapeutic process creates a 'Window' of new opportunity and help the client to go from disengagement to engagement again: CAP can be integrated at any stage of therapy. It gives therapist the ability to assist their patient in unraveling blockages that can inhibit personal growth.

One Case Study - Depressive Syndrome
The strong organization of CAP places it in the frame of the mobilization-oriented method.
It is a 12-week commitment which provides regularity, structure and self-discipline associated with a free creative expression, which are qualities that, when developed, have positive consequences in everyday life.
The triad consisting of the therapist - artistic creation - patient
is a winning combination, resulting in one of the most powerful
therapeutic interventions for today’s professional.
The process gently guides individuals to the roots of their problems, helping alleviate emotional and behavioral imbalances in a non-intrusive way.
The identification of dysfunctions, conflicts or emotional patterns through pictures, provide a dynamic therapeutic tool assisting mental health professionals in addressing issues and creating a venue for patient self-discovery. This methodology is just as effective to help uncover the underlying causes to many patient’s issues.
It is suitable for all ages, nearly all mental health fields and can be used in either individual or group sessions.

"After viewing first-hand the powerful impact it had with our sample youth group I was in awe of the depth at which CAP reached. What would of taken us anywhere from five or six months of talk therapy was reach in an hour with the youth, amazing!"

One of the most powerful and moving experiences with CAP is the ability to help many patients through the process of reaching an inner sphere of strength and abilities.
From this perspective, many are able to take action and shift from a place of desperation to a place of hope and acceptance for a new meaningful life.
